Avatar 3D (4 1/2 Rubys)

Absolutely phenomenal scenery. A MUST SEE in 3D—don’t sell yourself short for this one. Great character design. Good story. Moves along pretty quickly with the exception of last 40 minutes. A L-O-N-G movie.

Refugee aliens, the last survivors from their homeworld are placed in South Africa’s District 9 until the world’s nations can decide what to do with them. The human race becomes impatient as tensions arise between earth’s citizens and the aliens. Good story and was nice to see there weren’t any big name stars. I enjoyed it. No “super” special effects, but they weren’t needed either. Cool weaponry designs. Alien language was harsh on the ears.

This movie is based on the true story of a college professor and part-time inventor. He invented the intermittent wiper in the 1960’s and the sotry is about how his dreams and invention are stolen by the power-house Detroit car companies and his struggle throughout his life to get credit and recognition for what he did. I loved this movie and movies like this one. Just a great story, plain and simple.
