Star Trek (2009) (5 Rubys)
I am a HUGE fan of the original series so this was a nice treat to see an up-to-date prequel. Great interaction between the characters—some of which mirroring trials and tribulations from the original series. Loved hearing Bones call Spock a ‘green blooded hob-goblin.’ Great action and plot flowed nicely. Strange twist with Leonard Nimoy as Spock prime—wasn’t sure about how that all fit into the story. Have heard many complaints from fellow Trekkies concerning the Spock/Ohura pairing—I did not see an issue with this addition. Highly recommend seeing this film.

I am a very big vampire themed movie afficionado so I try to see as many as I can. This was MUCH better and had a lot more flow than the first installment of the Twilight Saga. Twilight seemed forced with the acting and even though there were some similar forceful scenes, but they were much more spread apart. The last 1/2 hour was very good and made up for the first hour and a half I sat through with my 12 year old daughter. The end of course leaves you hanging and wanting to see the next installment. Just for the record—I am “Team Edward” : have to go with the vampire.

A single mom and her slacker sister who still lives with their dad end up starting a business of their own. They go into the crime scene cleanup business—go in after murders/suicides/deaths and clean up the mess left after the body has been removed from the premises. I really like the comedy/drama genre when it’s done right, and this movie does it RIGHT all the way to the end. Some very touching moments as well as hilarious scenarios and wittiness throughout. A great Saturday or Sunday afternoon movie to pop in.
